Do You Recognize These Signs?

Keratoconus Can Make
Everyday Life Difficult

Keratoconus is a progressive eye condition where the cornea gradually thins and bulges outward, distorting how light enters your eye. Many patients spend years getting stronger and stronger glasses prescriptions without realizing the real cause — and without finding real relief.

Blurry or distorted vision glasses can't fix
Frequent prescription changes
Halos and starbursts around lights at night
Increased sensitivity to light and glare
Eye strain, headaches, and fatigue
Double vision or ghosting in one eye

If any of these sound familiar, a comprehensive keratoconus evaluation could change your life.

Early Detection Matters
Our advanced OCT and topography can detect keratoconus before symptoms worsen — giving you better long-term outcomes.

Precision Diagnostics

Technology That Sees What Others Miss

Getting the most comfortable and healthy lens fit for a keratoconus patient requires more than a standard eye exam. Our advanced imaging technology gives us a level of precision that directly translates to better outcomes for you.

Advanced OCT eye scanning technology
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Ultra-high-resolution cross-sectional imaging reveals microscopic corneal details invisible to the naked eye. We use OCT data to detect keratoconus early, measure corneal thickness precisely, and design lenses that fit your unique corneal shape — not a generic template.
Corneal Topography
Creates a detailed 3D map of over 20,000 corneal surface points, detecting even the smallest irregularities. This map is essential for custom lens design, tracking disease progression, and ensuring your lens vaults the cornea correctly at every visit.
Digital Video Recording (Slit Lamp)
We capture high-definition video through the slit lamp microscope during your fitting appointments. This lets us review lens movement, centration, and tear exchange in real time — and compare visits side by side to fine-tune your fit for maximum comfort.
Digital Refraction
Our digital refractors go beyond the standard 'which is better, 1 or 2?' exam. They allow us to dial in your prescription with far greater precision, ensuring that once your specialty lens fits correctly, your vision is as sharp as your eyes are capable of.

Your Path to Clearer Vision

Custom Lens Solutions for Every Stage

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to keratoconus. We evaluate your unique corneal shape, lifestyle, and vision goals to recommend the lens option that will give you the best combination of clarity and all-day comfort.

01
Most Recommended

Scleral Contact Lenses

Large-diameter lenses that vault completely over the irregular cornea and rest on the white of the eye. A fluid reservoir between the lens and cornea provides exceptional all-day comfort and crisp, stable vision — even in advanced keratoconus.

Vaults over the entire cornea
Fluid reservoir for all-day hydration
Custom-designed using OCT data
Suitable for moderate to advanced cases
02
Comfort + Clarity

Hybrid Contact Lenses

A rigid gas-permeable center provides the optical clarity of a hard lens, while a soft skirt around the edge delivers the comfort of a soft lens. An excellent option for patients who find traditional RGP lenses uncomfortable.

Rigid center for sharp optics
Soft skirt for wearing comfort
Good for mild to moderate cases
Easier adaptation than full RGPs
03
Proven & Precise

Custom RGP Lenses

Custom rigid gas-permeable lenses have been the gold standard for keratoconus management for decades. Designed from your topography data, they provide excellent visual acuity for mild to moderate cases at a lower cost.

Excellent optical performance
Custom-fitted to your cornea
Ideal for mild to moderate cases

Common Questions

Answers to Your Most Important Questions

We understand that navigating a keratoconus diagnosis can feel overwhelming. Here are the questions we hear most often from new patients.

Schedule a Consultation

Common early signs include blurry vision that glasses don't fully correct, frequent prescription changes, increased light sensitivity, and halos around lights at night. A comprehensive exam with OCT imaging and corneal topography can definitively diagnose keratoconus — often before symptoms become severe.

Most keratoconus patients never need a transplant. With early detection and proper management — including specialty lenses and corneal cross-linking when appropriate — the vast majority of patients maintain good vision without surgery. We co-manage with trusted surgical partners when procedures are necessary.

Scleral lenses are significantly larger than standard contacts and vault completely over the cornea, resting on the white of the eye. They create a fluid reservoir between the lens and cornea that provides exceptional comfort and stable, clear vision — even for highly irregular corneas.

Many vision and medical insurance plans provide coverage for medically necessary contact lenses, diagnostic testing, and procedures. We accept VSP and most major vision insurance plans. Our staff will review your benefits and help you maximize your coverage.

Most patients complete the initial fitting process in 2–3 appointments over 2–4 weeks. This includes your comprehensive evaluation, diagnostic lens trial, custom lens ordering, and a delivery appointment with insertion and care training.

Most patients do not need a referral to see our optometrists. We welcome self-referred patients. However, we recommend checking with your insurance provider about their specific requirements for specialty contact lens coverage.

This is one of the most common concerns we hear. Many patients who struggled with standard or even specialty lenses in the past find that scleral lenses or hybrid lenses are dramatically more comfortable. The key is precise fitting using OCT and topography data — not trial and error. We also use digital video recording through the slit lamp to observe how the lens sits and moves on your eye in real time, which helps us fine-tune the fit far more accurately than traditional methods.

We use four key tools: OCT imaging for cross-sectional corneal detail, corneal topography for a 3D surface map, digital video recording through the slit lamp microscope to observe lens movement and tear exchange, and digital refractors to dial in your prescription with exceptional precision. Together, these give us a level of diagnostic detail that leads to better-fitting, more comfortable lenses — often on fewer visits.

Yes, keratoconus is a progressive condition, particularly in younger patients. That's why regular monitoring with corneal topography and OCT is so important. If we detect progression, we can refer you for corneal cross-linking (CXL) — a procedure that stabilizes the cornea and can halt the progression. We co-manage CXL patients with trusted surgical partners and continue your contact lens care throughout the process.
